Dragon*Con 2010

Now, you could read about my experience at Dragon*Con here, but where’s the fun in that? Summing things up within a single statement, I’d say that Dragon*Con 2010 was a blast. 5 years into my yearly pilgrimage to D*C (though I’d like to go to PAX as well if they weren’t both on the same weekend), and I find that it’s still impossible to explore everything unless you have a dozen friends with varying interests to help you recount the entire D*C experience.
Be that as it may, I frequented many of the animation and voice acting sessions, and I got an opportunity to meet some of my favorite voice actors such as Billy West, John DiMaggio, C. Martin Croker, and George Lowe to name a few. I ran into far more familiar faces than I expected in the sea of super-dorks, and managed to get some exclusive experiences at D*C that come from being a hard-working (if somewhat opportunistic) journalist.
Next year, a hotel room in the general vicinity of D*C will be a necessity, whether I’m still going as a journalist or not. It’s simply too much hassle to ride MARTA back and forth to get there, especially considering the late-night hour mass transit service around here in Atlanta. Still, some highlights of D*C 2010 included a glimpse of C.Martin Croker’s ‘Bizarro Sat Morn’ show, a session with the ever-hilarious George Lowe, and a fan panel with Metalocalypse that had much alcohol and fan-boyism involved, to say the least.
The interview with Billy and John turned out to be an interesting affair, and one that I was unable to entirely cover within my article for the Technique due to editorial decisions. Out of the 30 minute slot I had to use, Billy was delayed by 10 minutes and thus we had to wait awhile until John arrived. These 10 minutes or so of unrecorded material were both intriguing and melancholy in a sense, as Billy’s energetic, comical mask fell away for awhile. I can’t say I was equally introspective as he was given my somewhat star-struck and awkward status at the time, but he raised his worries about certain social issues and his awe, admiration of how much freedom people these days have to express their dreams and passions compared to when he was growing up as a kid. When we did start the interview with 10 minutes left to go, John finally showed up after the first question to liven things up further! I’ll try to upload the interview here as soon as possible, but I’m currently in the midst of getting past the 7 MB upload limit.
Hello world! AGAIN

As if there weren’t enough of it to go around, I’ve got a fantastic new blog to play around with! It’ll be partly for work and school of course, so at least there might be some fun projects to see or interesting papers to read.
However, read my first blog to backtrack on other entries from this past year. Soon as I can figure out how to migrate one blog to the other, to create a whole new level of blogreatness, I will do so!
